The Jackson County volleyball team, the Region 8-AAAAA Champion, punched its ticket to the Sweet 16 of the Class 5A state playoffs with a three-set win over Houston County on Wednesday night.
The Panthers won 25-12, 25-6, 25-12 to win in straight sets. Paisley Gillespie finished with a team-best 15 kills, while Hannah Stovall finished with six, Sophia Parker with five, Siena Berthold with four. Chloe Wright led the way with nine aces, while Gillespie finished with a team-best nine digs. Ava Lesniak finished with eight digs. Ally Page continued to be the leader in assists with 22.
Jackson County hosts Greenbrier Saturday in the second round of the playoffs. Greenbrier, the No. 2 seed from Region 1, won its first-round match 3-1 against Villa Rica.
The winner of Saturday's second-round match will face either Chamblee (No. 2 seed, Region 4) or Milton (No. 1 seed, Region 7) in the Elite 8 on Oct. 23.
