Track and Field Sweeps First Place At Commerce
The Jackson County High School track and field teams swept at Commerce Tuesday night. The girls tallied 154 points and the boys 129 to take first place.
Sophomore Sole Bailey finished in first place in the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Kennedy Stone finished in first place in the girls' 200-meter dash, while Kamryn Shaw-Foreman finished in first in the 400-meter dash. Cassidy Lugo finished in third in the 200 and second in the 300-meter events.
Jackson County took the top three in the 800-meter event, with Talina Thompson, Kendall Goetzman and Gabby Lee finishing first through third, while Erin O'Brien and Thompson finished first and second in the 1600-meter run. O'Brian and Goetzman finished first and second in the 3200-meter event, followed by Julia Crowthers.
Jacob Coombs finished in second place in the 200-meter dash but first in the 400-meter dash. Teammate Tyler Mobbs finished second in the 400-meter. In the 800-meter run, Zack Scott finished in second place. JCHS also took first place in the girls' 4X200 and 4X400-meter relay events.
In the field, Oumy Gaye finished in first place in the High Jump and second in the Long Jump.
Jackson County took four of the top five spots in the 1600-meter run on the boys' side, with Gavin Howland, Adam Thomas, Brody Wooten and Marshall Keith finishing second through fifth. Howland, Thomas and Gabe Spivey finished first through third in the 3200-meter run. In hurdles, Brayden Bejin and Israel Mohele finished first and second in the 110-meter hurdles, with Bejin finishing second in the 300-meter event.
The Jackson County boys' 4X400-meter and 4X800-meter relay finished in first place, while the boys' 4X200-meter finished in second place.
In the field events, Robert Spry finished in third in the boys' Long Jump and second in the Triple Jump, followed by teammate Matthew Kollander, while Peyton Scott finished in second place in the Shot Put.
