Tennis Sweeps Jefferson
The Jackson County tennis teams swept crosstown rival Jefferson on Tuesday afternoon, with the girls winning 4-1 and the boys 3-2. With the wins, the Jackson County girls tennis team improved to 4-0 on the season and the boys to 3-2.
QuyLan Johnson won the No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-2, putting the Lady Panthers up 1-0. Skylar Xiong put the Panthers up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory No. 2 singles. The doubles team of Armani Ly and Rylee Kohan sealed the victory for the Panthers with a 6-1, 6-4 win. MaiXuan closed out the longest match of the girls' day with a 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory at No. 1 singles.
The boys match was even more dramatic. Jefferson got on the board first, before the No. 2 doubles team of Luke Hayes and Owen O'Neal evened the match 1-1 when they beat Jefferson 6-1, 6-1. No. 1 singles Clayton Fairbank evened the score at 2-2, winning 6-1, 6-3. It all came down to line one doubles to decide who would win the match. Collier Uesseler and Harrison Chan dug deep and fought for a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory that pushed the Panthers to a 3-2 victory.
