Softball's Hewell Signs with Shorter, Brownlee with Belmont Abbey
A pair of Jackson County seniors signed national letters of intent to continue their softball careers on Wednesday.
Kylen Hewell signed with Shorter University, while Maegan Brownlee signed with Belmont Abbey.
Hewell was the Region 8-AAAAAA Defensive Player of the Year. A catcher, Hewell posted 121 putouts this season with a .973 fielding percentage. At the plate, Hewell finished the season with a .358 batting average in 95 at-bats. She led Jackson County with a .526 slugging percentage with a team-high 34 hits and two home runs.
Brownlee was the top pitcher for the Panthers this season and was named to the First Team All Region 8-AAAAAA after throwing 109.2 innings in 21 appearances, 18 of which were starts. She recorded an 11-7 record and posted an earned run average of 2.87 while recording 75 strikeouts.
Jackson County finished the season with a 17-10 record and earned an appearance in the Class AAAAAA state playoffs.
