Softball Secures No. 2 Seed, Home Playoff Series With Win

softball secures No. 2 seed, home playoff series with 15-7 win over Alcovy

Jackson County's softball team will once again be hosting a first round state playoff series when the Class AAAAA playoffs begin. The series can be held any time between Oct. 13 through Oct. 16.

The Panthers secured the No. 2 seed in Region 8 with a 15-7 win over Alcovy Thursday night, improving the Panthers' record to 15-4 overall and 9-2 in region play. Jackson County tallied 15 hits Thursday night, racing out to a 13-0 lead through the first three innings of play.

Reese Wilson, Emery Schiffmann, Alyssa Peurifoy all recorded multiple hits in the win. Peurifoy led the way by going 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored. Schiffmann drove in four runs, all coming on a second-inning grand slam to left field. Two batters later, Miabella Lee drove in two runs with a home run to center field.

Alcovy scored seven runs in the fourth inning before JCHS added two more in the top of the fifth. The seven runs for Alcovy came against relief pitching for the Panthers. Adalyn Mitchell started the game in the circle, and was her normal dominant self. Mitchell allowed no runs, no hits and struck out two in her three innings of work.

Jackson County hosts Habersham Central on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.
