Softball Receives Postseason Region Honors

HOSCHTON — Jackson County's softball program received postseason region honors on Monday. Senior Kylen Hewell was named the Region 8-AAAAAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Maegan Brownlee, Marley Grounds and Raeghan Thompson were named First-Team All-Region. Lauren Glander and Emery Schiffman were named to the Second Team. 

Hewell, who is committed to Shorter University, was the starting catcher for the Lady Panthers this season. She posted a .973 fielding percentage while recording 121 put outs.

Brownlee recorded a team-high 109.2 innings pitched, starting in 18 games for Jackson County. She struck out 75 batters and boasted a 2.87 earned run average. Grounds led Jackson County with the highest batting average this season, an impressive .403. She finished the season with 27 hits. Thompson finished the season with a .388 batting average on 33 hits. She was second on the season in runs batting in with 19. 

Glander finished the season with a .260 batting average, with 19 hits, including five doubles. Schiffman boasted a .310 batting average but also made an impact in the pitching circle for Jackson County. She finished the season with 46.1 innings pitched, one save in one opportunity, 28 strikeouts and a 1.964 earned run average. 

Jackson County (17-10) finished third in Region 8 this season, advancing to the state playoffs. In the Super Regionals, Jackson County eliminated Roswell before falling to eventual Super Region champion East Paulding.
