Colin Price struck out 10 batters as the right-handed pitcher led Jackson County past Alcovy 10-0 on Wednesday to open Region 8-AAAAA play for both teams. Price surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings to earn the win for the Panthers (8-5, 1-0).
Jackson County got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Landon VanWormer was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Justin Mills doubled, scoring two runs, one run scored on another play, and one run scored on another play.
Jackson County added one run in the second when VanWormer doubled to center field, making the score 6-0.
Mills provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Jackson County Varsity Panthers with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Price stole two bases, with the Panthers stealing six total bases on the night.
Jackson County visits to Alcovy in the series finale on Friday.
