​Panthers To Compete At State Sectionals

Jackson County High School will have a host of Panthers competing in the GHSA Class AAAAA State Sectionals for track and field on Saturday at Greenbrier High School. The Panthers qualified for sectionals 21 times during the Region 8 meet last week in Loganville. 

The Panthers claimed region championships in five events -- girls 4x800-meter relay team of Cassidy Lugo, Jordan Starling, Erin O'Brien and Kendall Goetzman; Sole Bailey in the 100-meter hurdles; Jalyn Robinson with a school-record time of 58.83 in the 400-meter dash; and the girls 4x400-meter relay team of Bailey, Lugo, Alaina Phillips and Robinson. 

The Panthers also qualified in the following events: Robinson in Long Jump (Region Runner-Up); Donovon Spry in Triple Jump, O'Brien (Region Runner-Up) in 1600-meter; Starling in 1600-meter run; 4x800-meter relay team of Jacob Coombs, Eli Averett, Adam Thomas and Zack Scott; Braden Bejin in the 110-meter hurdles; Noah Norwood, Robert Spry, Malachi Thomas in the 4x100-meter relay; Phillips in the 400-meter dash; Coombs in the 400-meter dash (Region Runner-Up); Bejun in the 300-meter hurdles; O'Brien in the 800-meter run; Lugo in the 800-meter run; O'Brien in the 3200-meter run (Region Runner-Up); Starling in the 3200-meter run; Avrett in the 3200-meter run; and Tyler Mobbs, Chris Burrows, Coombs and Bryan Layson in the 4x400-meter relay.
