Panther Baseball Goes 1-3 On Opening Weekend

Panther Baseball Goes 1-3 On Opening Weekend

Despite a 1-3 record on opening weekend in Alabama, the Jackson County Panther baseball team returned home to Hoschton with a lot of confidence about the direction of the season. Head coach Nick Pou called the weekend an extremely positive experience for the Panthers, who host a doubleheader against Clarke Central on Saturday in the home opener of the season.

The Panthers defeated Theodore (Ala.) 10-3 in the opener of the weekend showcase, before falling to Baker (Ala.) 10-0, Bayside Academy (Ala.) 16-7 and Mary Montgomery (Ala.) 4-3.

On the weekend, Sam Bradley hit .462 with two doubles, while Karson Wheeler hit .500 with a double and a home run. Mitchell Bryce hit .430 with a double and a grand slam. Brody Strickland got the victory on the mound for the Panthers, while  Jack Teague threw four shutout innings. Overall, the Panthers hit .321 with 32 hits despite cold, blustery conditions.
