Mitchell Named Region Pitcher of the Year

Mitchell Named Pitcher of the Year

Jackson County junior pitched Adalyn Mitchell was named the Region 8 Pitcher of the Year over the weekend after helping the Panthers reach the Final 6 teams in Class AAAAA in Columbus. Additionally, Emery Schiffmann, Alyssa Peurifoy and PJ Walker were named to Region First-Team, while Reese Wilson, Sofia McCafferty, Miabella Lee and Lauren Glander were named Second-Team. 

Mitchell was the dominant go-to pitcher for the Panthers this season. The righthander appeared in 20 games, making 17 starts, throwing 118 innings. She struck out 133 batters, allowing just 36 earned runs on 57 hits and posting a 2.136 earned run average. She threw a no-hitter against Alcovy on Sept. 9. 

Schiffmann led the Panthers with a .480 batting average this season, tallying 47 hits and tying for a team-best 10 doubles with Walker, who finished with a .377 average on the season. Schiffmann also recorded three doubles and one home run. Peurifoy finished the year with a .344 average for the Panthers. 

Wilson recorded a .381 batting average this year for the Panthers, while McCafferty finished with a .333 average. Lee led the Panthers in triples with four and home runs with three, en route to a .362 batting average. Glander finished the season with a .349 average .
