After days of battling rain and rescheduled tennis matches in the Region 8-AAAAAA Tournament, the Jackson County girls tennis team claimed the region championship Friday afternoon. The Lady Panthers defeated Gainesville 3-0 to earn the win. QuyLan Johnson won first and put Jackson County ahead 1-0 with her three set victory at line two singles.
Almost simultaneously, Skylar Xiong put JCHS ahead 2-0 with a straight set victory at line one singles. The tandem of two doubles, composed of Armani Ly and Rylee Kohan, sealed the victory with a thrilling three set win. Jackson County's girls face Newnan Tuesday at home in the first round of the state playoffs. The boys team finished fourth in the region.
