The boys and girls cross country teams at Jackson County High School opened the season with a pair of seventh place finishes on Saturday at Apalachee High School.
Erin O'Brien was the top-placer for the Panther squads, finished fifth in the girls event with a time of 19:48.78. Jordan Starling finished with a time of 21:56.47 to finish in the top 30.
On the boys side, Elijah Avrett finished 12th overall with a time of 17:19.55, while Gavin Howland finished 26th with a time of 17:47.03. The cross country teams return to action on Saturday with a meet at Lamar Murphy Park in Jefferson.
