Girls Tennis Sweeps Region Play

The Jackson County tennis teams swept Lanier Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers won 5-0 and the Panthers, 3-2. With the win, the Lady Panthers swept the region regular season schedule, making it consecutive seasons with the accomplishment. The boys finished 3-3 in region play and face Lanier once again in the first round of the region tournament. The Lady Panthers receive a buy and an automatic berth in the Class AAAAAA State Playoffs. 

At one singles, Skylar Xiong coasted 6-0, 6-0, while QuyLan Johnson earned a 6-2, 6-0 win. At line three singles, MaiXuan Johnson blasted through her opponent 6-0, 6-0.  At one doubles, Brooklyn Clerici and Lily Potter won 6-1, 6-3.  Armani Ly and Rylee Kohan completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at two doubles.  

The boys' match was much more dramatic. Jackson County got the first win of the day at one singles when Clayton Fairbank breezed his way to a 6-0, 6-0 victory, putting the Panthers up 1-0.  Then, Jarrett Burch gave us a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of his own at two singles.  Then, the day got tougher.  Lanier got on the board next with a win at one doubles and three singles. The match came down to line two doubles, and it was won in dramatic fashion when Harrison Chan and Owen O'Neal won 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4).
