Boys Tennis Downs Top-Seed, Advances to Sweet 16
The Jackson County boys tennis team defeated Alexander, the top seed from Region 5-AAAAAA, by a score of 4-1 in the first round of the state playoffs on Monday night. The Panthers will now face either Pope or Allatoona in the second round of the state playoffs.
On Monday night, the Panthers earned wins from the two doubles tandem of Luke Hayes and Harrison Chan (6-2, 6-3) to put the team ahead 1-0. Clayton Fairbanks was victorious in straight sets to push the lead to 2-0. After Alexander won its only match of the day, JCHS closed out the competition with two highly contested matches. In two singles, Jarrett Burch overcame a 1-6 loss in the first set to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3. In one doubles, Collier Uesseler and Avery Gordon came out victorious with a 6-1, 6-7, 7-5 victory to complete the first round win for Jackson County.
