Basketball Continues Hot Streaks, Sweeps Habersham

Basketball Continues Hot Streak, Sweeps Habersham

The Jackson County varsity basketball teams continued their recent hot streaks on Friday night, sweeping Habersham Central in Region 8-AAAAA competition inside Panther Pavilion. The girls won 48-47 on a game-winning free-throw from Macey McCutcheon, while the boys won 71-60. The boys have won 9 of their last 11 games, including six in-a-row to get their record to 10-10 overall and 5-2 in Region 8, good enough for first place. The girls  are now 14-6 overall and 5-2 in region play, and have won three straight.

Freshman Myles Richardson led the Panthers Friday night with 18 points, while Tyler Rasinski had 16 points. Silas McDaniel finished with 14 points and RJ Knapp with 12 points to go along with a team-high nine assists and five rebounds.

On the girls' side, McCutcheon finished with just four points on the night, but non-bigger than her game-winning free-throw. Ka'Mya Washington led the Lady Panthers with 15 points, while Madelyn Drucker had 14 points. Maddie Harkins and Lille Vick finished with six points each.

Both varsity teams will host Winder-Barrow on Wednesday night. The games were originally scheduled for Tuesday, but were moved due to the potential impact of this weekend's winter storm.
