16 Panthers Named All-Region
Fresh off the heels of a record-breaking season as a team, which included hosting the first-ever state playoff game, the Jackson County football team saw 16 players honored through All-Region accolades. Josue Mendoza was named the Region 8-AAAAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Carson Odom was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.
In total, five Panthers received All-Region Offensive team honors, five on defense and four were named Honorable Mention.
Daylan Maxwell, Caden Daniels, Jacob Coombs, Tripp Brown and Wren Skinner were named to the offensive unit, while Slade Swierczek, Kane Berryman, Deacon Wiley, Luke Mobbs and CooperGalley were named to the defensive unit.
RJ Knapp, Donovan Spry, Mason Allen and Tyler Mobbs were named Honorable Mention.
Mendoza finished the year with 62 total tackles, 14 for a loss (6 sacks) while forcing a team-high three fumbles. Odom led the Panthers in scoring with 56 points, averaged 36 yards per punt, recorded a season-long 62-yard punt, was 29 of 29 on extra points and 9-for-11 on field goals this year.
The Panthers finished the regular season with eight wins, tying a mark set in 1993 for most wins in school-history. The Panthers allowed the fewest amount of points in a season since ‘93, as well, earning region runner-up honors. The Panthers hosted defending state champion Coffee in the first round, falling 31-7.
